Sree Mahadeva institute of Teacher Education (SMITE) Vaikom , formerly known as Sree Mahadeva Teacher training institute (TTI) is the first higher education institute in Vaikom municipal area , which was established in the year 2004 under the management of Sree Mahadeva Educational and charitable society. The institute is running 2 year D EI Ed course (Diploma in Elementary Education) formerly TTC. The Goverment of Kerala granted non objection certificate to start the course in the year 2003. National Council of Teacher Education recogni3ed the institute in the year 2004 , the same year started first batch of TTC with an intake of 50 students. The Kerala pareeksha bhavan , Trivandrum is conducting the examinations and issuing the certificates to the students.
D.El.Ed. is a 2 years full-time diploma course which is divided into 4 semesters. The course has been designed to impart teaching skills, teaching methodology and subject-wise knowledge to candidates.
